The replacement of the old drainage network is on in full swing in a number of areas in Srinagar city including the Rajbagh area. The current drainage system in the Valley is too old and not sufficient to absorb the outlet and waste that flows from domestic and commercial buildings.
Work Supervisor Bilal Ahmed, told ANI, "We started this work in January, but due to bad weather conditions the work was halted sometimes. But now it's being carried in full swing. We have laid around 600 meters drain lines and are trying to finish it soon. The old drains were on surface but these are deep."
The residents of Srinagar city were facing a lot of problems due to the old and small drainage system.
A local resident named Burhan told ANI, "The drainage system has been here since my grandfather's time. The water logging was horrible. Now, hopefully, the water will flow out and we won't have to suffer too much."
The construction of drainages in Rajbagh area is almost eighty percent complete and authorities are hopeful that the project which costs Rs 60 lakh rupees will be completed soon.
The Kashmir valley receives huge snowfall and continuous rainfall which results in huge water logging and inconvenience for the residents.
