Stokes says 'had point to prove' to coach Flower before 'impressive' Perth century

England player Ben Stokes has said that he is determined not to be a one-hit wonder and knows he has to prove his brilliant century in the third Test was 'not a fluke' when the action starts again on Boxing Day, according to reports.

According to The Daily Express, the all-rounder, 22, who was sledged relentlessly by the Aussies on debut in Adelaide but earned their admiration with a superb century in Perth, insisted there is still plenty at stake despite England losing the Ashes.

He said that he has a good opportunity to go out there and try to do it again, adding that players can't live off one performance and he has to back it up, make sure he can do it on more than one occasion and show it was not a fluke.

Stokes has provided one ray of hope in an otherwise gloomy tour with his maiden century as England battled hard in an attempt to save the Perth Test, the report said.

He added that he never thought the had blown his chances but clearly had to prove a point to coach Andy Flower and the selectors, and that everything he did had to be that extra bit more professional.
