Tapan Misra on Friday assumed office as the director of the Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad.
According to a release by the Department of Space, the former Microwave Remote Sensing Area deputy director has been responsible for system design, planning and development of Microwave Remote Sensing Payloads of ISRO.
Misra has been awarded the Hari Om Ashram Prerit Vikram Sarabhai Research Award in 2004 and the ISRO Merit award in 2008 for his contribution to the development of SAR technology. He was elected as Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2007 and as Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics in 2008.
