Taylor Swift leads MTV VMA awards with 9 nominations

Taylor Swift is ruling the nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards with her name in nine categories.

The 25-year-old pop star, whose celeb clad video for 'Bad Blood' is up for video of the year, is followed by Ed Sheeran with six and Beyonce and Mark Ronson with five nominations, the BBC reported.

Swift's superhero themed video will compete for the accolade with Beyonce's '7/11,' Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud', Ronson's 'Uptown Funk' and Kendrick Lamar's 'Alright.'

This year's event will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, who confirmed the news with a Twitter post, sharing a picture of herself wearing placards saying, "MTV won't let me perform" adding "So I'm hosting this year's VMAs."

Artists to watch category includes three Brit starts, George Ezra, FKA Twigs and James Bay, while the other two nominees are American stars Vance Joy and Fetty Wap.

Best female video award will see Ellie Goulding for 'Love Me Like You Do,' Beyonce for '7/11,' Nicki Minaj for 'Anaconda', Sia for 'Elastic Heart' and Swift for Blank Face competing with each other.

Meanwhile, in the best male category, Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' is competing with 'The Weekend for Earned It', Nick Jonas's 'Chains,' Lamar's 'Alright' and Ronson's 'Uptown Funk.'

The awards, which began in 1984, are being held in Los Angeles on 30 August and will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater.
