Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Rajiv Shukla has said that Sachin Tendulkar's application for leave from attending the budget session of parlaiment has become a big issue because he is a celebrity.
Shukla said, "Any member can write to the chair and ask for leave by giving proper reasons. Sachin has also sent a letter because of his commercial preoccupations and family problems, and the leave has been granted (by the Rajya Sabha Chairman) despite opposition by some members."
According to Shukla, such leaves have been granted to a lot of members who are not attending the session.
He said, "The problem is that there are a lot of members who are not attending the session, but nobody is raising their issue because they are not celebrities."
There was an uproar in Rajya Sabha today over the application by Sachin Tendulkar asking for leave citing personal and professional reasons.
