Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal can guide his side to the Premier League title.
Rodgers comments came after United claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
"It is a very open league this season. It is a huge win for them. They kept the clean sheet, they probably weren't so bothered about how they played.
They got the three points and they'll look at where they sit in the table and feel if they get a run of eight, nine, ten wins they can be in with a great chance,"Rodgers was quoted as saying by goal.com.
Describing Van Gaal as a 'top-class'manager, Rodgers said that the Dutchman was highly experienced, insisting that he had won big games for some of the biggest clubs in the world.
"When you are at the big clubs it is not just about the winning, it is about the style in which you play. Obviously that's been the criticism that's been labelled at him. But in terms of management I think he is a top-class manager and has been for many years," he added.
United, which kicked off their Premier League season with repeated poor results , are currently at the fifth spot in standings, having 10 wins from 22 games which they have played.
Van Gaal-led side will now lock horns with Southampton on January 23.
