United States President Donald Trump will host Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from April 17 to 18 at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, the White House said on Monday,

Both the leaders are expected to discuss on trade negotiations and relations with North Korea, which also includes President Trump's proposed meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in May, The Hill reported.

"The two leaders will discuss the international campaign to maintain maximum pressure on North Korea in advance of President Trump's planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un," White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

"President Trump and Prime Minister Abe will explore ways to expand fair and reciprocal trade and investment ties between the United States and Japan, two of the world's wealthiest and most innovative economies," she added.

The US President also hosted Abe at the Florida resort in February last year. Calling the resort as "the winter White House," President Trump has also hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Abe's visit to the US comes when the two Koreas are scheduled to hold a summit on April 27, in an endeavour to improve bilateral ties between them.

There has been a pressing need for the denuclearisation of North Korea by Japan, the US, China and South Korea.
