United States Ambassador to India, Kathleen Stephen, today appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-day bilateral visit to her country, saying he impressed everyone with his firm resolve to strengthen the partnership between both sides.

"Prime Minister Modi deeply impressed everyone in the U.S. with his energy, focus and commitment to even stronger relationships between the United States and India. The two leaders of great democracies not only established relationship with great warmth, understanding and a sense of shared background, goals but also with a sense of a lot of work to do together," said Stephen, who was at the American Center here on Discover America Day.

"The US and India have a long and deep relationship and with Prime Minister Modi visiting the US within months of his very impressive victory in the elections in India it is a moment to look forward how far we have come and what we can do together. I view the visit as a moment where we could really look at how we can deepen our already very broad relationship. It was a great and important visit one would continue to build on." She added.

Meanwhile, the U.S. envoy congratulated children's rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistani child education activist Malala Yousafzai for winning the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.

"I was very pleased to hear about the awarding of Nobel peace prizes to two inspirational individuals from India and Pakistan who are in areas of deep concern to all of us, the welfare of children, girls, the challenges that are faced throughout the world not only in India or Pakistan. To see individuals like them being awarded Nobel Peace Prize is very moving and an inspiring thing for all of us and I want to extend my congratulations to them," she said.
