The Uttar Pradesh Government on Wednesday ordered closure of judicial inquiry into the 2016 Jawahar Bagh violence incident, as the Allahabad High Court has order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter.

The court's decision came while hearing a batch of writ petitions.

The case was previously being probed by a one-member committee headed by retired Allahabad High Court judge Mirza Imtiyaz Murtaza, which was constituted by the erstwhile Samajwadi Party Government.

The violence took place in Mathura last year when a cult-like group of nearly 2,000 protestors, who claim to be the "true followers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose", got violent after they were asked to evict the land they were encroaching upon following the directions of the Allahabad High Court.

Following this, the protestors opened fire on the police and also lobbed grenades on the cops.

According to reports, there had been tension in the area ever since the Mathura administration gave the protestors a 48-hour ultimatum on April 15, 2016 that lapsed without any action being initiated.
