The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has withdrawn its controversial reservation policy for civil services examinations and also quashed the result of the Combined Provincial Civil Service, PCS examinations held in 2011, which was based on it.

A public notice was issued by the commission to this effect.

The commission said that fresh amended result will be prepared on the basis of old norms for reservation and will be declared very soon.

Earlier media reports said that aspirants for civil services and students were agitated over the result which was declared on July 4 on new pattern of reservation for OBCs and other reserved categories in the PCS examination.

The Commission had implemented the reservation on all steps of recruitment which badly affected the opportunities for the general category students.

The Allahabad High Court had also on July 22 stayed the interviews for Civil Services, till further orders.

Interviews were scheduled from Friday.

Meanwhile 22 students arrested, while participating in the agitation against the Commission's reservation policy, are being released from Saturday as police has withdrawn serious criminal charges against them.

The court has accepted their bail applications after withdrawal of the charges.
