The US says that the Islamic State (IS) did not shoot down the Jordanian plane that crashed in Syria.

The F-16 fighter jet crashed in the IS territory on Wednesday. The pilot of the aircraft has been captured by the Islamic State militants.

According to the BBC, while the IS militants claim that the group shot down the plane with a heat-seeking missile, the US said "evidence clearly indicates" that this was not true.

The terror group published photographs to show that the pilot was now their hostage.

The downed pilot was identified by the Islamist group as Flight Lieutenant Moaz Youssef al-Kasasbeh.

US Central Command (Centcom) strongly condemned the actions of IS, and confirmed that the pilot had been taken captive by the group, the report said.
