Veerappa Moily denies any pending investigation in old cases

Oil Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Thursday said that all old complaints have been cleared out by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and currently no enquiry is pending.

"All old complaints have been cleared out and it has also been brought to the notice of CVC. There is no enquiry and investigation pending there," said Moily.

Central Vigilance Commission is India's apex body to address governmental corruption.

Recently, a fresh controversy erupted regarding Sudhir Vasudeva, head of the country's largest profit-making firm Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The complainants alleged that Moily was seeking a post-retirement extension for him without a fresh CVC clearance.

Commenting over the new cases, the minister said there are a few fresh complaints that need to be verified.

"It is all fresh. There is fresh complaints that has to be enquired whether it is fake or not by the CVC," added Moily.

Earlier this year there was a controversy over appointment of P.J Thomas as the country's chief of vigilance (Chief Vigilance Commissioner) that had turned into a legal battle after noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan questioned the 'impeccable integrity' of the senior bureaucrat.

The Supreme Court had then asked the government to answer several questions on his appointment to the coveted chair of CVC while he was facing corruption charges.
