Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, whose national ambition got a boost as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the by-polls, met party chief Rajnath Singh here on Wednesday amid indications that he may be made the head of the party's campaign committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP President congratulated Modi for the party's win in the Gujarat by-polls.

Modi also met BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani later in the day.

Meanwhile, the BJP supporters and activists burst crackers in Ahmedabad and distributed sweets following the party's superb victory in the by-polls.

The General Secretary of Gujarat state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Amit Shah, appeared to be delighted with the result, and exuded confidence in the party's victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Gujarat is the base for Bharatiya Janata Party and people of Gujarat have full faith on the leadership of Narendra Modi. The people praised the development work done by the provincial government of Gujarat by voting for BJP. I on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Party express my gratitude towards the people of Gujarat," said Shah.

"We all believe that people will support the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and inspire the party workers in the same way it did in these polls," he added.

The BJP today swept the six by-elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Gujarat. Wresting all the six seats from Congress in Gujarat, the BJP won the Lok Sabha by-elections in Porbandar and Banaskantha with a margin of over 1.28 lakh and 71,000 votes respectively and bagged the assembly seats of Limbadi, Morva Hadaf, Jetpur and Doraji by handsome margins.
