Australian spin legend Shane Warne has reportedly played a key role in the transformation of towering England fast bowler Chris Tremlett from a meek and mild youngster to the most threatening quick of Australia's arch rivals.
The hulking Tremlett, favourite to win England's third paceman's slot for the Ashes, had played in county side Hampshire when Warne was captain.
According to News.com.au, Warne recalled that he had to fire up the formerly gentle fast bowler to transform him into a 'fire breather' by making him face to some 'home truths', including calling him as soft as butter, adding that although Tremlett was a 'great fella' and was virtually unplayable, he needed to toughen up and get a bit more aggressive.
The report mentioned that Warne's words did the trick, which became evident with Tremlett's great success in Australia with his aggression and steep bounce from his intimidating height.
Agreeing with Warne, Tremlett said that although he was a bit timid when he was younger, he was forced by Warne to realise his failings and also grew more confident and aggressive with age.
After missing the first two Ashes Tests in Australia in 2010-11, Tremlett took 5-87 in Perth and 4-26 in Melbourne as he captured 17 wickets at 23 from three Tests, the report added.
