Asserting that climate change is a major global challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said there is a need to restore the balance between humanity and nature.

"It is the result of global warming that came from the progress of an industrial age powered by fossil fuels. We in India face consequences of it (climate change) today. We are concerned about the rising oceans," said Prime Minister Modi after inaugurating the India Pavilion here.

"We want the world to act with urgency. Agreement must lead us to restore. We must restore the balance between humanity and nature," he added.

Prime Minister Modi said the UN Summit on Climate Change is of great significance to India's future.

"I am delighted to inaugurate the Indian pavilion. This pavilion (Indian) is a window to our heritage and our progress. This Summit is of great significance to India's future," said Prime Minister Modi.

"It is a window to our tradition, progress, aspirations and achievements. We stand in solidarity with Paris and France," he added.
