Jake Gyllenhaal has recently revealed that he got hit all the time while filming 'Southpaw' in order to look his character more authentic.
'The Nightcrawler' actor said that he was front and center inside the ring while portraying boxer Billy Hope in his upcoming film, Us magazine reported.
The 33-year-old further added that he and director Antoine Fuqua wanted to achieve an equally larger than life character to portray late professional boxer Hope and wanted to make sure that they were shooting it in a way that was real.
In order to make a genuine flick, the often-method actor Gyllenhaal also hit the gym really hard and no stunt doubles were used during the shoot.
Gyllenhaal recalled one brutal learning experience in the ring, which subsequently made him empathize more with his character where he got hit really hard.
