Maruti Suzuki could launch this compact crossover in the country as the manufacturer has revealed earlier that they’ll launch 20 new products in the coming five years and the new Baleno and S-Cross were the part of the plan!

Suzuki Ignis has made its world premiere at the ongoing  2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle is the production-spec version of the im4 concept Suzuki had revealed earlier at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Japanese automaker has not extensively detailed the product apart from stuffs like dimensions and engine options. Speaking of its Indian debut, there is no doubt in the fact, Maruti could introduce this in the country as Mahindra will be launching S101 in coming months which is a similar product.

Dimension:

  • Length: 3700 mm
  • Width: 1660 mm
  • Height: 1595 mm

There are typical compact SUV cues - dimensionally short, high stance, prominent wheel arches and almost no overhangs. The front profile features a large grille that engulfs the headlamps entirely. The A and B pillars are blacked out to make the roof look like floating.

The rear profile reminds us of the Suzuki Alto from Japan. Speaking of the interiors, the interiors are brand new and certainly it is not sharing anything from the current Suzuki part bin, unlike the Baleno which is borrowing the steering with the rest of the products. The design is less claustrophobic and the touchscreen infotainment unit is protruding.

Mechanically, the vehicle will be pulled by Suzuki’s 1.2-liter Dual-Jet motor incorporated with Suzuki mild hybrid - SHVS tech. Power will be handled by either by a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The vehicle will come standard with 2WD drive setup while 4WD drive will be optional.
