Just one more day, and we will have an all-new BMW 1 Series premium luxury hatchback in India. The much-anticipated 1 Series is all set to hit the Indian shores tomorrow in Mumbai - September 3, 2013. The BMW 1-Series will directly cross-sword with the all new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which received an overwhelming response from buyers across the country.

The BMW 1-Series will be made available in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the diesel hatch will be powered by a 2.0-litre motor that develops 143bhp, the petrol model will have a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection motor, which also powers the Mini Cooper and Cooper S. The 1.6-litre petrol engine is capable of developing an impressive power output figure of 136bhp. Both the engines will be mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The German luxury car manufacturer has already started taking pre-orders for the 1-Series, and started promoting the vehicle aggressively. The company launched an innovative marketing promotion which gave 10 lucky winners a fully sponsored trip to Germany to drive the 1-Series along with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Indian FIA GT driver, Armaan Ebrahim. The BMW 1-Series will be locally developed at their Chennai based facility, so to keep its costs in check. We expect the luxury hatchback to be priced around Rs. 20-25 lakh.
