BMW has launched it's first hybrid model, the 7-series ActiveHybrid in India at INR 1.35 Crore (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The flagship model will follow the CBU (Complete Built Unit), and arrive as a direct import in the country.
Visually, ActiveHybrid is very much similar to the regular 7-Series, except the ‘Active Hybrid 7’ badging. The car has been designed aerodynamically to channel the air flow over the body efficiently and reduce drag. The front carries the trademark kidney grille, adaptive LED headlamps with chrome accents and large air vents in the lower part of the bumper. Long hood and short overhangs accentuate the saloon's sporty yet luxurious stance.
The 7-Series ActiveHybrid comes equipped with a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, that produces 320 bhp of maximum power and 450 nm of peak torque. This twin-turbocharged mighty engine works in conjunction with an electric motor which independently is good for 55 bhp and 210 nm torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed gearbox. Despite of its bulk, the saloon sprints 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 250 kmph.
Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “Hybrid vehicles are milestones in a time of change toward low-emission driving. It's no coincidence that we call our hybrid models ‘BMW ActiveHybrid’. It’s because they supply the full dynamics of a BMW with outstanding efficiency. The all-new BMW ActiveHybrid 7 introduces a fundamentally new driving experience in the luxury segment that India has never seen before. It is the perfect choice to savour the agility and performance of a BMW 7 Series in a hybrid vehicle, without having to compromise in any way on comfort or spaciousness.”
As per company claimings, the ActiveHybrid model is 14 percent more fuel efficient than the standard model. When the car is turned off, a 120 volt lithium-ion battery pack powers the air-conditioning system, which ultimately results into better fuel efficiency. Else, the saloon also gets brake energy regeneration and a hybrid start stop system to save fuel.
The ActiveHybrid is another addition to the BMW's 7-series lineup available in the country, that already includes the 730 Ld, 740 Li, 750 Li and the top-of-the-line 760 Li.
