Datsun has began the roadshow for its first hatchback, the GO and the company will cover all the major Indian cities. The next halt for this hatchback will be at the upcoming Auto Expo and should be launched immediately after that. The GO will cost about Rs 4 lakhs and will be powered by a three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The GO is a hatchback that is based on the Micra platform, however it will be sold under the Datsun brand. Datsun is a new brand under the Nissan umbrella, which Nissan decided to spring to life again. Datsun is a brand that will have majority of locally manufactured parts for its products, products that will target local audience and will be built as per their needs.
The Datsun Go will target first-time car buyers and it will be spacious too. The concept is provide a car that is cost-effective and a good value for money too. Datsun vehicle will be sold through the existing Nissan dealerships, however it won’t be channelled through Hover Automotive India, like the Nissan brand. This means the company will have to set-up its own marketing team for this new brand. Nissan will be introducing the GO, Qashqai and maybe even the new Teana and X-Trail this year. The Datsun will get two more products in the coming two years, one will be a UV and other could be another hatchback that will be smaller than the GO also.
