The new generation Hyundai i20 has been codenamed as the Hyundai IB. At the moment, no one is aware about what will be offered on the new generation B+ hatchback. However, we at CarDekho have received some details on the new Hyundai IB and some of the characteristics of this new hatchback.
To begin with, the Hyundai IB will be based on the same platform like the current i20. Our sources have confirmed that the dimensions of the new Hyundai IB will be 3980 x 1720 x1500, which is very similar to the current Hyundai i20 at 3995 x 1710 x1505. The current generation i20 was codenamed as PB and we can expect the IB to replace it sometime next year.
The Hyundai IB has already been spotted by several websites doing runs on their test mules. Our sources also confirm that Hyundai India has imported 11 test mules from South Korea to complete the testing. The engine and transmission were exported from India for the assembly and testing of these 11 test mules in South Korea, after which they have returned to India as complete body unit. At the moment, the engine that are being tested are the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine with five-speed manual transmission and the second is the 1.4-litre U2 diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There has been no sign of any automatic transmission, however we are sure the Korean manufacturer will introduce an automatic as it has been the need of the day. Hyundai is one of the most aggressive brands when it comes to introducing features, stylish exteriors and interiors and of course engine variants. Hence, we can expect a petrol automatic for sure, maybe on the 1.2 petrol itself.
There were rumours of Hyundai testing a diesel automatic for the Grand i10 diesel and then even the XCent diesel. We have learnt that tests on automatic have been going on, however it isn’t confirmed if they are on the 1.4-litre U2 or the 1.1-litre U2 engine. The transmission is the same four speeder as we have seen on the current generation i20, Grand i10 and XCent. The Verna MY 2014 also received some mild updates and Grand i10 has got over 90,000 cusomters in under a year’s time. The XCent too has been doing good number for the Korean manufacturer.
