Deliveries of the India’s first indigenous sports car- DC Avanti will commence on 16th of the on-going month. Priced at INR 35 Lacs (ex.showroom), the car was first unveiled in concept form at the 2012 Auto Expo, while the production-ready model marked its presence at the 2014 Auto Expo and did turned a lot of heads.
Built to tackle the Indian road conditions, the Avanti is 4,550mm long, 2,120 mm wide and 1,200mm in height, which is considerably higher than any of the internationally-made sportscar. Whereas a good170 mm ground clearance, again won’t really bother Avanti about scraping the underbelly.
Propelling the Avanti is a Renault-sourced 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, capable of putting out a maximum 250 bhp at 5500 rpm and 340 Nm peak torque between 2,750 to 5,000 rpm. And this power is transferred to the rear wheels with help of a 6-speed manual transmission.
With a kerb weight close to 1500 kgs, the Avanti is reasonably quick, sprinting 0-100 in 6 seconds(claimed) and goes upto an electronically limited top speed of 200 kmph. For efficient braking, it comes equipped with 330 mm ventilated discs at the front and 295mm at the rear, along with the Continental-developed Anti-lock braking system (ABS) as a standard feature.
Though the official launch of Avanti is still to happen, DC has already sold out the first batch of 500 cars. But if you are planning to buy one, then wait for the next batch, which will reportedly be available in another three-four months.
