Jaguar has announced a new price for the locally manufactured Jaguar XJ L 3.0-litre diesel starting from INR 92.1 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai, Pre Octroi). The XJ L 3.0-litre diesel will be available in two derivatives, the Premium Luxury and Portfolio.
This reduction in price happened as the new 2014 MY XJ L has now taken the CKD route to India. The XJ L is now being assembled in the Tata Motors Pimpri plant, this is where Mercedes-Benz cars were assembled under Telco. The other products from Jaguar Land Rover that are also assembled here include the Jaguar XF and the Land Rover Freelander 2.
Mr. Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover, India said, “We are delighted to introduce the flagship of the Jaguar brand, the epitome of extraordinary luxury, the XJ as locally manufactured, at an extremely competitive price point in the luxury saloon segment in India. The new 2014 XJ with new innovative features is bound to have an enhanced appeal for the discerning and successful individuals with a refined taste for elegant British style, luxury, design and sophistication.”
Some of the new features include the upgraded rear seat comfort pack with three massage seat functions, increased rear headroom, electric rear side window blinds, LED reading lights, 25.9 cm (10.2) rear screens (Rear Seat Entertainment System) and a new rear business table. The previous models had already received the rear seat package, which added a lot more luxury to the existing embellishments.
While the competition to XJ L has been increasing their prices, Jaguar has reduced it as it has begun the local assembly of its flagship model. BMW had upgraded the 7 Series last year, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new S-Class this year and it’s a lot more expensive than the XJ L. As the other variants of the S-Class will hit the market in the CKD form, the entry-level price point will come down. Audi’s A8 L has also received an overhaul. Amongst the four, the XJ L has the lowest entry price point, if you consider the V6 engine specification.
Expect the company to even get other Land Rover models into the assembly phase. The F-TYPE might just be available as a CBU. The company has several new upcoming models, with the Jaguar getting the XE, while the Land Rover division has the Discovery, Discovery Sport and the new DC 100 range for the Defenders.
