The production of the long-wheelbase version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been commenced by Beijing Benz Automotive Co. Ltd. (BBAC). Just after six months after the start of production of the new C-Class in Germany, its long-wheelbase variant has already rolled out off the line. The model will be launched in the Chinese market in September 2014. The rising demands in the Indian luxury car market will soon attract Mercedes-Benz to bring the long-wheelbase version of their soon to be launched new C-Class saloon to Indian shores.
The extra 8 centimetre long-wheelbase version of the C-Class offers its passengers the increased level of comfort with maximised rear seat legroom. Furthermore, the front row passenger seat can be adjusted by passenger sitting in the rear seat. The new C-Class features more advanced technology and a full range of assistant systems including a semi-autonomous driving pilot and an innovative touchpad that allows for operations of the head unit functions. The new long-wheelbase C-Class also offers maximum safety and the latest in technology in this segment.
The engines powering the Chinese new C-Class will be locally produced in Beijing as well at Mercedes-Benz’ first ever passenger car engine plant outside of Germany. Frank Deiss, President and CEO of BBAC, stated “Given its production in four plants on four continents, the C-Class sedan is our most global model. As a part of Mercedes-Benz’ global production network, we are committed to deliver ‘The best or nothing’ – in Beijing, like elsewhere. This has always been a driving factor of our great success in the past, and will continue to be so in the future.” Since the C-Class is the most global model for Mercedes-Benz, expect the long-wheelbase to be soon available in India, and hopefully will be locally assembled to keep the prices competitive.
