Mahindra Quanto with auto gear Shift unveiled

India’s leading SUV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra has presented Quanto MPV with auto gearshift at Auto Expo. M&M was the first carmaker who introduced an automatic SUV in India and now, it unveiled a small MPV with automated manual transmission.  The Quanto gets the five-speed autoSHIFT transmission, which has been developed for the first time in a compact SUV.

Designed specifically to improve the driving experience and fuel economy in the urban environment, the unit incorporates the key efficiency advantages of a manual transmission, while offering the smooth comfort and convenience of an automatic. Moreover, this autoSHIFT transmission incorporates some extremely advanced technologies. These include an advanced electronic control and hydraulic actuation system that sense driver demand and initiates gear changes automatically based on a highly optimised shift map that delivers the best possible fuel efficiency.

Interestingly, the homegrown automaker has also developed a “regenerative braking” technology in which kinetic energy is recovered through an alternator and stored in the battery which reduces the need of generation during subsequent travel, which in turn leads to reduction in fuel consumption and emission.
