The Vitara Brezza is now the largest-selling SUV of the country. The Brezza’s popularity has resulted in a long waiting period which is drawing away its customers. Much to our happiness, Maruti is all-set to increase the Brezza’s production for the second time. India’s largest carmaker will now churn 10,000 units (of the Brezza) per month from July. To achieve this, Maruti has systematically reduced the production of the Swift and the Swift DZire. The waiting period for the Brezza is more than six months (for some variants), which hopefully will now reduce.
The Vitara Brezza has been writing its own success story in the country. Within a few days of its launch, the SUV had managed to grab 40,000 bookings. Furthermore, it dislodged the Hyundai Creta, which was otherwise enjoying its unrivalled position in the market, from the throne. Last week, Maruti increased the production of the Baleno in order to combat the six to eight months waiting period. In May itself, Maruti had decided to increase the production of these two cars (the Baleno and the Brezza), courtesy their growing demand. After witnessing an overwhelming response at the Expo, Maruti had to revise its producing plan -- from 80,000 units of the Brezza per year to 1,00,000 units a year.
The Vitara Brezza is priced between Rs 7 to 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It only comes with a diesel engine option -- a 1.3-litre DDiS200. This engine is not exactly powerful, but has a class leading fuel economy of 24.3kmpl. Watch the expert review of the Vitara Brezza to know what makes this car India’s largest-selling SUV.
