Maruti Suzuki has spoken about developing a diesel engine for its mini segment, which includes the Alto, A-Star and Wagon R. But there has been no visible action from the company so far, so we didn’t know what is happening. The new international Alto, which is the A-Star in India is now about to complete its life-cycle and we can expect Suzuki to showcase the new concept vehicle in the upcoming Auto Expo.
This means the company could be testing its new vehicle on the A-Star body, or it is testing the same platform to check the sustainability with the harshness and vibration of its new oil burner that the company is working on.
One of our readers Jaspreet Dua spotted a European spec Suzuki Alto (known as the A-Star to us) with temporary number plate that too a white one on the streets of Delhi. Some of our fellow reporters from other websites have also spotted the Nissan Pixel being tested.
The company has been testing these vehicles for quite sometime in and around the Manesar plant. Maruti Suzuki is working on something with its Mini platform. Our sources suggest that the company is working on developing a new hatchback. This will be based on the A-Star, and it will have diesel powertrain as an option too.
The other product that the company is working on is the compact SUV, which it showcased at the Auto Expo as XA Alpha last time. It is predicted to be launched sometime around Diwali or by the end of this year.
If you spot a test car, please email us the images at editorial@cardekho.com and get due credit and win some exciting goodies.
