Just few more hours and India will get to see the all new Octavia, which will replace the existing Laura, though the launch will happen sometime in August. The unveiling will be done by Chairman- Board of Directors of SKODA Auto, Dr. H.C. Winfried Vahland. The new Skoda Octavia is built on the parent company Volkswagen's new MQB platform on which Audi A3 and VW Golf too are based. The new platform has helped the new Octavia to get 90mm longer and 45mm wider than the Laura, which makes it even more spacious and comfortable.
In terms of design and interior quality, it is certainly more up-market now with the improved plastic quality, more sophisticated dashboard, and better fit and finish. When it comes to safety, the Octavia has been given some of the most advanced features including automatic braking system, lane assistance, fatigue detection system, nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, intelligent light assistant and traffic sign recognition.
Despite being larger in dimensions, the new Skoda Octavia is likely to be priced lesser than the existing Laura; however, there is no official confirmation yet on the pricing. The engine options that the new Octavia will carry are a 1.8-litre TSI petrol, a 2.0-litre TDI and probably the 1.4-litre TSI, which also sports VW Jetta. The 1.4-litre TSI powered version will be the base variant.
This is all what we have for now, we will do a detailed story on the specifications and other features in the evening when the car will be unveiled. Stay tuned to CarDekho. Cheers!
