Suzuki has unveiled the new Vitara at the on going Paris Motor Show. Unlike the current model, Japanese auto giant has ditched the 'Grand' from its name and now has christened it as Vitara. The vehicle is based on the IV-4 concept that the company showcased earlier. Speaking of the Indian debut, as Maruti still sells the Grand Vitara, the new SUV is expected to enter next year maybe with a diesel heart!
The new Vitara is dressed up in vibrant colors with contrasting roofs. The vehicle looks dapper compared to the current version and sports several contemporary add-ons, like, blue projector headlamps, day time running LEDs, etc. On the inside, various dashboard elements looks similar to other Suzuki's, company has added contrasting dashboard appliqués on the SUV and the 7-inch touch screen infotainment system is similar to the one we are getting in Ciaz, Maruti calls it 'SmartPlay'.
Mechanically, the new Vitara is powered by both petrol and diesel powertrains. The petrol gets a M16 1.6-litre naturally aspirated motor that churns out 118bhp of max power at 6000rpm and 156Nm of max torque at 4,400rpm. The Vitara petrol comes mated to a 5-speed manual and it is also available with an optional 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
On the diesel front, Vitara gets a D16AA 1.6-litre diesel engine that sports an electronically controlled VGT – Variable Geometry Turbo for improved efficiency and driveability. Diesel generates 118bhp of max power at 3750rpm, similar to that of petrol, while the torque stands tall at 320Nm, which comes at 1750rpm. The new Vitara features Suzuki's ALLGRIP four wheel drive technology. The 4x4 version comes with four modes, namely, Auto, Snow, Sport and Lock.
