Blue Oval Inaugurated Its second spanking new manufacturing facility today at Sanand Gujarat and officially revealed their trump card this year - Ford Figo ‘Aspire’ compact sedan, launching in couple of months!
Ford has officially revealed their Swift Dzire rivaler Figo Aspire compact sedan during the inauguration of their new production facility in Sanand Gujarat. It will be the first product to be manufactured from the new facility followed by its twin - next-gen Figo hatchback. The sedan is likely to be launched first in by mid this year followed by the hatch. Just a reminder, both the vehicles are already on sale in Brazil and known as KA and KA+.
Figo Aspire will compete with Swift Dzire, Xcent, Amaze and Zest while Figo will rival majorly with Grand i10 and Swift. Both the vehicles feature Ford’s Kinetic 2.0 design philosophy. On the inside, It features Ford’s SYNC infotainment system with a 3.5-inch display screen just like the EcoSport and Fiesta. The voice guided SYNC offers, Bluetooth phone integration and lets you control your apps, music and phone, hands-free. The system is equipped with the - AppLink - smartphone integration that recently debuted in EcoSport while it was launched in India with the Fiesta facelift last year. With the help of SYNC, AppLink lets you use your selected smartphone apps through voice commands, eg. ESPNcricinfo app. Moreover, for lower trims Figo Aspire features a unique My-Ford-Dock , it helps in docking your mobile on the dashboard for charging, music streaming and navigation. Looks like bluetooth phone integration will be standard across the range.
In terms of safety, Figo Aspire gets 6 airbags including segment first side and curtain airbags. Moreover, with the SYNC equipped version, it also features Ford’s Emergency Assistance, the system calls the emergency services (108) in case of any casualty (if airbags deployed) using your connected phone automatically.
Speaking of the engines - 2015 Figo duo (Figo Aspire and Figo hatchback) will get new petrol and diesel engines. Both the engines will be new for Figo nameplate. Ford India reveals that the cars will get a new 1.2-liter Ti-VCT and 1.5-liter TDCI diesel. The 1.2-liter TiVCT 4-cylinder motor is expected to produce in-between 85-90 bhp while torque will be under 120 Nm. This equates to a bump of 15+ horses and a considerable increase in the max torque.
The 1.5-liter diesel is likely the slightly de-tuned version of Fiesta/EcoSport’s 1.5-liter DV5 turbo diesel. The same configured engine in Fiesta’s hatch version in Europe gathers 75 bhp and 195 Nm of twist. That equates to 6 bhp bump and a massive 35 Nm uprate in max torque compared to current-gen Figo’s 1.4-liter diesel motor.
