What to Expect from Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki will soon launch its new compact crossover S-Cross which was recently showcased at the 2015 IIFA awards in Malaysia. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is reportedly coming in the first week of next month and will be pitched against the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and soon to be launched Hyundai Creta. The company has organised a special media event where specific details about the crossover were revealed. S-Cross will be offered with two diesel in different variants named as Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Sigma and Sigma (O).

So let’s have a quick look on what to expect from Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Exterior

  • The front profile looks refreshing and the car measures 4,300 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, 1,590 mm high. S-Cross stands tall on 16-inch radials to offers a ground clearance of 180mm
  • With a wheelbase of 2,600mm, the car offers boot space of 430-litres which can be further increased with rear seat split
  • Standard external features include body colored ORVMs, door handles, silver skid plates and steel rims
  • The option of projector lamps, alloy wheel, side blinker on ORVMs and LED position lamps are given on higher variants.

Interior

  • The crossover will offer all-black interiors with chrome finish on AC louvers
  • Fabric upholstery in base variant and leather on higher models
  • Central locking, keyless entry, power windows and electrically adjustable ORVMs are some of the standard features
  • S-Cross will also get automatic air conditioning, cruise control and sliding front centre armrest with storage

Other Comfort and Safety Features

  • On Safety front, the car will come with standard driver side airbag and dual airbags on mid and higher variants respectively
  • Front and rear disc brakes are also provided with ABS control
  • Steering mounted control, navigation and 7-inch touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system
  • Bluetooth and USB connectivity is also added on top variants

Engine Options

Two Diesel Engines and No Petrol

  • The diesel will include 1.6-litre DDiS and 1.3-litre DDis powertrain and sadly there is no petrol model on offering at the time of launch
  • Peppier 1.6-litre engine gives an output of 120PS @ 3,750 rpm and a max torque of 320 @ 1,750 rpm
  • The smaller 1.3-liter MultiJet is sourced from Fiat and is dubbed as DDiS200 (same as in the Ciaz). It gives an output of 90 PS @ 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1750 rpm.
  • 1.6-litre engine is mated to 6-speed manual while the 1.3 gets 5-speed manual gearbox
  • Shockingly, there is no automatic and AWD model

Variant Specification

S-Cross 1.3L Delta and 1.6L Delta Steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity, black and silver roof rails, full wheel caps and door chrome handles, anti-theft security system, reverse parking sensor with display and Audio with CD player.

S-Cross 1.3L Zeta and 1.6L Zeta Smartplay infotainment system and push-button start/stop (1.3L only), Electric folding ORVMs, Automatic Climate control, rear center armrest and parcel tray.

S-Cross 1.3L Alpha and 1.6L Alpha 16-inch alloy wheels and leather upholstery, Cruise Control, Rain-sensing wipers and automatic projector headlamps.

S-Cross 1.3L Sigma and Sigma(O) Body-colored door handles, silver skid plates, steel rims and fabric upholstery. In Sigma Option, Dual airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS and 4 speakers.
