Key benchmark indices were trading on a weak note as falling rupee and surging crude prices spooked investors. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 598.23 points or 1.66% at 35,377.40.
Among the sectoral indices on BSE, the S&P BSE IT index (down 2.43%), the S&P BSE Realty index (down 2.23%), the S&P BSE TECK index (down 2.09%), the S&P BSE Oil & Gas index (down 2.01%), the S&P BSE Consumer Durables index (down 1.81%), the S&P BSE FMCG index (down 1.58%), the S&P BSE Healthcare index (down 1.48%), the S&P BSE Auto index (down 1.48%), the S&P BSE Power index (down 1.21%), the S&P BSE Bankex index (down 0.97%), the S&P BSE Metal index (down 0.19%) edged lower. The S&P BSE Capital Goods index (up 0.6%) edged higher.
