Centre Allocates 587.97 Lakh Tons PDS Grains during Current Year

The Government has provisionally allocated a quantity of 587.97 lakh tons of foodgrains during the current year to the States/Union Territories (UTs) for Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS)/ National Food Security Act (NFSA), Other Welfare Schemes (OWS), natural calamity, festivals, additional requirement of the States/UTs. This includes 50 lakh tons of rice specially allocated on July 07,2014 for controlling the food inflation. In addition the Government has also allocated 100 lakh tons of wheat on July 25,2014 for tender sale to bulk consumers/private traders through FCI during the current year. The stock of foodgrains available in the Central Pool as on July 16,2014 was 593.06 lakh tons as against the buffer norms of 319 lakh tons for July-September quarter.
