Shares of six IT companies rose by 0.21% to 2.36% at 13:54 IST on BSE as Indian rupee edged lower against the dollar.

Wipro (up 2.36%), HCL Technologies (up 2%), CMC (up 0.86%), TCS (up 0.84%), Tech Mahindra (up 0.62%) and Infosys (up 0.21%) edged higher. MindTree (down 0.21%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (down 0.80%) edged lower.

The S&P BSE IT index was up 0.85% at 10,692.57. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 0.64% at 27,290.58.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was currently hovering at 63.8150, compared with its close of 63.7350 during the previous trading session.

A weak rupee boosts revenue of IT firms in rupee terms as the sector derives a lion's share of revenue from exports.
