Shares of sugar companies rose by 0.16% to 13.56% at 14:29 IST on BSE as sugar futures rose in the domestic commodities markets.
Empee Sugars and Chemicals (up 13.56%), Bajaj Hindusthan (up 7.90%), Eastern Sugar & Industries (up 5%), Shree Renuka Sugar 3.47%), Rana Sugars (up 2.88%), Dhampur Sugar Mills (up 2.86%), Balrampur Chini Mills (up 2.78%), Oudh Sugar Mills (up 2.55%), Sakthi Sugars (up 2.39%), KCP Sugar & Industries Corporation (up 1.92%), Dwarikesh Sugar Industries (up 1.63%), DCM Shriram Industries (up 1.60%), Triveni Engineering & Industries (up 1.08%), Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries (up 0.80%) and EID Parry (India) (up 0.16%), edged higher. Simbhaoli Sugars was down 4.81%
The S&P BSE Sensex was down 166.29 points, or 0.66% at 25,035.61.
According to reports, sugar prices are firming up in the spot markets due to rising demand from retailers as well as bulk consumers driven by festive season.
