At least 14 persons were killed when Afghan security forces repelled a Taliban attack in Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

"Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Darzab district on Sunday night. Nine others were wounded as security forces repelled the attack," Xinhua news agency quoted the official as saying.

Sporadic clashes continued in the district on Monday morning.

Jawzjan and the neighbouring Faryab province have scene heavy clashes in recent months as the Taliban has been trying to challenge Kabul in the once relatively peaceful region.
