Considered as the world's highest arena rally, the 18th edition of the Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya was on Saturday flagged off with more than 240 motorsport enthusiasts taking part in it.
This year the rally will cross the challenging route of Kaza, traversing through Sarchu towards Leh over seven days and will culminate here on October 15.
The rally takes place at an extremely high altitude of upto 17,500 feet with temperatures as low as minus 15°C where the participants will compete in three categories - Cars Extreme, Bikes Extreme and Adventure Trial.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Pant, assistant vice president (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said: "Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya is one of the toughest off-road motor rallies conceptualised to enhance the thrill of professional motorsport enthusiasts in India."
"Increasing participation of motorsports enthusiasts encourages us to strengthen the motorsports events. Raid de Himalaya in particular offers an unparalleled motorsport experience at high altitudes," he added.
