Around 2,000 men were arrested in Bihar for impersonation during the constable recruitment exam, police said on Wednesday.
Officials said the number of arrests made in the last three weeks are the highest for one exam in the state so far. The men were held for impersonating candidates during checking of documents.
Last year, the state government initiated the process for recruitment of 11,783 constables and written exams were held. Around 52,000 candidates were called for screening of documents at the Patliputra Sports Complex here.
A preliminary investigation found that the impersonators were hired by the aspirants for taking the physical test. All those arrested were presented in court and sent to jail, said Anand Prakash, an official of the police recruitment board.
It was also found that 150 women were unfit for recruitment as they were pregnant, police said on Wednesday.
"A pregnancy test was conducted for all the women aspirants and a number tested positive. Now, such women have to wait till the next round of recruitment for police constable in the state," said Prakash.
Screening of documents for 16,600 women began last week.
"We had applied for the post last year in April-May and it took nearly a year to invite us for screening of documents for a physical test. In this period, several women aspirants were married and got pregnant, and that cost them their life time opportunity," said Nirmala Devi, who was declared unfit for physical test after being found to be pregnant.
In 2014, around 150 people were arrested for impersonation during the statewide written examination for the recruitment of police constables.
