A new case of polio has been detected in Pakistan's northwest tribal region, taking the total number of cases in the country to 22 this year, officials said.
The new case was found in Bara region of Khyber Agency, the Dawn reported citing the National Institute of Health in Islamabad.
One-year-old Maryam Bibi, daughter of Shabbir Shah, tested positive for poliomyelitis, making it the ninth polio case of the year in Khyber Agency.
The new case brings the total in the country to 22.
The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has recorded 13 cases, highest in the country, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with five.
The report said the new polio victim in Khyber Agency had not received any dose of the oral polio vaccine, due to the problem of inaccessibility of the area.
