At least 244 people were killed in the past one week in attacks in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, a British war monitor said on Tuesday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 25 people have died in the past 24 hours, EFE news reported.

At least 228 people were killed in airstrikes carried out by military planes and helicopters in the eastern districts of Aleppo, as regime forces closed in on opposition rebel fighters.

Among those killed in the city's east, at least 141 were civilians, 87 were fighters and another 16 remain to be identified.

Meanwhile, at least 16 people died in west Aleppo, including 10 school children, in attacks on areas controlled by government forces.

The monitor said the number of victims could increase taking into account the many injured.

The NGO pointed out the lack of medical supplies and staff in east Aleppo, where four hospitals were out of operation between Friday and Saturday due to damages.

There were some health centres open in east Aleppo, according to the observatory, after the World Health Organisation and Aleppo health directorate declared the closure of all hospitals in the area over the weekend.

The WHO said over 250,000 civilians lacked access to healthcare, though some small clinics were attending patients.

After a three-week cease-fire, attacks resumed on November 15 in the eastern part of the city.
