Naples, May 7 (IANS/AKI) Anti-mafia police in Italy have arrested 32 people suspected of trafficking waste illegally in the southern Campania region.

The suspects are allegedly linked to the Naples mafia or Camorra and had divided up the illegal waste trafficking business in Naples, Caserta, Benevento and Avellino, police said.

The arrests followed an investigation that began in December 2011.

Investigators have for decades been aware of the Camorra's grip on rubbish collection and disposal as well as its involvement in trafficking illegal waste.
