The Commissionerate Police have registered 140 cases and fined 230 persons for violation of Supreme Court's order on bursting firecrackers in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The Commissionerate Police have lodged cases against 140 persons of the two cities for allegedly bursting crackers before 8 p.m. and after 10 p.m. on Diwali, said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.
They were prosecuted under Fire Works and Loud Speakers (Regulation) Act-1958 for violating the apex court's order, said Mohanty.
Fines amounting to Rs 1.15 lakh were slapped on 230 others under the Odisha Urban Police Act.
