Delhiites will soon be able to learn Sanskrit at a nominal fee at 75 Sanskrit teaching centres that government has decided to open, it was announced on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said a three-month certificate course will be offered at these centres, which will conduct three two-hour sessions a week.
Every family in Delhi should be able to understand Sanskrit being used in day-to-day life and that's the aim of the course, he said.
Sisodia said the fees will be nominal and added that a committee will design the course in a month's time and the centres will open soon.
"Though Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the world, its usage is now very limited and with the course, we're trying to make it enjoyable for people," he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said currently even students who study Sanskrit till Class 10 are not able to understand Sanskrit being used in day-to-day life.
"In schools, grammar and forms are taught, but here we want to teach Sanskrit in a way which ordinary people will understand and enjoy," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sisodia had directed officials to set up Hindi Literature Clubs for the promotion of the literature in the language.
