A contemporary touch to Vyasa's Mahabharata

To create an entirely different aura around the epic tale of Mahabharata, a theatre show here is all set to present one of its chapters through contemporary dance.

To be organised by contemporary dance company Sadhya, "The Game of Dice" will be presented on Saturday at Meghdoot Theatre at 7.30 p.m. here.

Though the subject is from Mahabharata, its treatment is on a contemporary line, where aspects like music and costumes have been experimented with and highlighted to create a different feel and look.

The production has been choreographed by Santosh Nair. Music has been composed by Upmanyu Bhanot and Rishi Sharma.

"The Game of Dice is (dance company) Sadhya's much acclaimed production, which is based on the episode of Mahabharata, though it is a subject of Mythology, the treatment is very contemporary," the choreographer, who runs the Santosh Nair Dance Company, said.

And, to portray the day-to-day chaos, confusion, competitiveness and conflict in the present day life of individuals, Sadhya presented its play Khoj on Friday.

It showcased how this choice affects not only individuals him but everything around hthem, including dreams, family and friends.

"Celebrating its 18 years, we at Sadhya are putting up two productions. Khoj brings is relatable to each & everyone of us in the present times," Nair said.
