American theatre artiste Martin Moran was sexually abused for a period of three years by a counsellor at the tender age of 12. He was too young to understand what was happening to him, but the incident remained embedded within his mind and took the shape of a solo-act years later.

The act was performed in the capital Saturday evening where he shared with the audience the dilemmas he faced during those delicate years.

In the award-winning play "The Tricky Part", the 54-year-old recounts the story of his growing up years in Denver, Colorodo, as well as his meeting with Bob, counsellor at a Catholic's boy's camp.

His experiences, revealed layer-by-layer, brought out the complexities of the relationship he had with BOb.

What is interesting is that the affable and charismatic Moran managed to keep a balance of humour and honesty in the act. He did not get overwhelmed by his personal grief.

Moran did not try to present only his side of the story as he also offered details of the positive aspects of Bob. His portrayal of Bob is manipulative, creepy and generous - like that of a normal human being, who can be harmful when it comes to exploitation.

However, Moran accepted the fact that the incidents are a part of who he is.

The play directed by Seth Barrish was brought to India by actor-producer Poorna Jagannathan, who had also produced the play "Nirbhaya" based on the Dec 16, Delhi rape incident.

Jagannathan said child sexual abuse is a burning issue in India.

The play premiered in New York in 2004. The journey of coming to terms with his with his anger became the plot of his second play "All the Rage" that will be performed in the capital Nov 16 at the India Habitat Centre.
