Adnya packs off Manya

Unseeded Adnya Naik from Mumbai knocked out top seed Manya Nagpal of Delhi 7-5, 6-1 in the opening round of the women's singles to provide a rousing start to the DS Max AITA tennis tournament here Tuesday.

Adnya played a positive game, attacking at every opportunity to put her rival on the defensive. Manya, who kept pace for a while in the first set which she ultimately lost, simply caved in thereafter with a series of unforced errors.

In another women's singles first round match, wild card Pragati Natarajan of Tamil Nadu defeated the sixth seed Sanya Madan 6-2, 6-1.

The qualifying rounds were completed earlier in the day with Rishab Dev Ram, CD Ajay, Manu Bajpai, Rishab Agarwal, Ramesh Vignesh, Taha Kapadia, Sagar Manjanna and L Balajai among men, and Riya Bhatia, Anusha Bhasin,Moulika Ram, J Sindhu, Swetha Srihari, Nikita Bishnoi, and Saumya Vig making it to the main draw.
