A spell of heavy showers on Wednesday inundated many parts of the eastern metropolis, including the central business district, causing hardship to commuters and creating massive traffic snarls.
The city's arterial thoroughfares like Shakespeare Sarani, Rani Rashmoni Road, Park Street, Lenin Sarani, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, as well as the Moulali area were under ankle-deep to knee-deep water.
Vehicles moved at a snail's pace or stood in queue for hours.
The Met office said rainfall could occur in some places in the next 24 hours till Thursday.
