Ahirwal belt, comprising Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendergarh districts, has got good representation in the first BJP government in Haryana led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The ministry was sworn in Sunday.

Three of the nine ministers in Khattar's ministry are from the Ahirwal region in southern Haryana where the BJP won all the 11 assembly seats in the Oct 15 election.

Rambilas Sharma (BJP legislator from Mahendergarh) and Rao Narbir Singh (Badshahpur) have been inducted as cabinet ministers while Bikram Singh Thekedar (Kosli) has been made minister of state with independent charge.

The Ahirwal region is dominated by Yadav and Rao communities.

"We wanted to see union minister Rao Inderjeet Singh (who is also from the Ahirwal belt and is the Lok Sabha MP from Gurgaon) as chief minister," one of his supporters told IANS.

"He had been fighting for years against (former Congress chief minister) Bhupinder Singh Hooda's bias against the Ahirwal belt and south Haryana," the supporter said.

"We hope Khattar will do better," he said.

All the four assembly seats from Gurgaon district, all four from Mahendergarh district and all three seats from Rewari district have been won by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Oct 15 assembly election.
