AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Sunday said the party had decided to enter into an alliance with the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the forthcoming general elections.
She made the announcement after meeting CPI's general secretary A.B. Bardhan at her residence here.
Jayalalithaa said she was happy to announce that the AIADMK and the CPI had decided to enter into an alliance to fight the polls.
"Other details will be worked out later," she added.
She said the present aim was to win all the 40 Lok Sabha seats -- 39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry.
She said the election plank would be peace, prosperity and progress.
According to Bardhan, the prospects of Jayalalithaa becoming prime minister could open up if the AIADMK-Left alliance won the elections.
