Ruling AIADMK legislator and former minister P. Chendur Pandian died here on Saturday after a prolonged illness, the party said.
He was 65 and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Pandian represented Kadaiyanallur assembly constituency in Tirunelvelli district, around 650 km from here.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa, in her condolence message, said Pandian's death was a great loss for the party.
She said Pandian joined the party during its initial years and was a hard worker.
